Private Capital · Foreign Exchange · Commodities

Patient capital in a restless market.

Barakzai Capital stands for two things: trading currencies with private capital, and bringing buyers and sellers of oil and commodities together.

The currency market never quite sleeps. Somewhere, a day is always beginning. I follow it with a clear head, a steady hand and my own money at stake.

Activities

Two fields, one name.

i. Capital

Foreign exchange

Here, I trade.

I trade currencies with my investors' capital and with my own. Every decision is mine, and so is the responsibility for it.

  • My own capital at stake
  • Currencies and nothing else
  • One person decides
ii. Commodities

Oil & commodities

Here, I connect.

I act as intermediary and representative for buyers and sellers of crude oil and other commodities. I bring the right parties to one table and stay with the conversation until they can deal with each other directly.

  • For buyers and for sellers
  • Contacts built on personal trust
  • Discretion with every name

The two fields are kept strictly apart. Investor capital is used for currency trading only and never enters a commodity transaction.

Principles

What I hold to.

i.

One hand

Every position is opened and closed by one person. No committee, no delegation. Here, responsibility has a name.

ii.

My own capital

My own money is in the same trades as my investors'. I take no risk with their capital that I do not carry myself.

iii.

In trading, currencies only

When I trade, I trade currencies and nothing else. The largest market in the world asks for undivided attention.

iv.

Patience

Not every day is a day to trade. Waiting is a decision too, and often the best one.

Philosophy

The foundation in a name.

Portrait of Dost Mohammad Khan, Emir of Afghanistan, painted around 1835
Dost Mohammad Khan, c. 1835 · National Army Museum, London

Barakzai. For 150 years, this name stood at the head of a country.

It begins in 1826, when Dost Mohammad Khan took Kabul and founded a dynasty. A foreign army drove him from his throne, and he came back to win it again. History calls him the Great Emir. After him, his house gave Afghanistan its emirs, its kings and its independence.

The Barakzai were the elite of their land: commanders, statesmen, rulers. They held power through strategy, through alliances, and through a will that did not break.

This is the inheritance the name carries into my work. The same discipline. The same long view. The same refusal to accept a limit.

There is no limit. Alexander the Great
